Wall Sconce

Below is our wall sconce project that we are working on for 2009

This project makes simple and low cost Wall Sconces for your Haunt.

Step 1 (The Materials):

  • 1 - 1"x3" Strip
  • 1-1/2" Wood Screws (#4)
  • Wood Glue
  • Circular Saw, Jig Saw, Square, Tape Measure
  • Battery Operated Candle (Acquired from Dollar Tree)

We first cut the 1x3 board to a 20" length.  Then we cut two 4" pieces from the 1x3 board.

Step 2 (Cutting the rounded edges):

We used a roll of duct tape as a guide to help make the rounded edges for the wall board and the shelf board. We used the Jig Saw to cut the rounded edges.

After the edges are rounded, mark the board 6" from the bottom.  This is where the rounded shelf board will be attached.  Be sure to use the wood glude as you attach each component.  Use the wood screws to attach the components.

Step 3 (Drawing and cutting the shelf brace):

Trace out the curved shelf brace and round the brace with the jig saw.

Step 4  (Attaching the Shelf Brace):

Attach the shelf brace using the wood glue and wood screws.

Step 5 (The completed Assembly):

Step 6 (The finished product - Painted and Battery Powered Candle Mounted)

Paint the wooden sconce flat black.  Glue a small piece of wood on the bottom of the candle and use a wood screw to fasten the candle just in case you need to remove it at some point.
